New technique could change image treatments

This video is a bit on the wonky side - but the potential of this new technique is incredible. The process - called “seam carving,” allows images to be expanded and contracted in a way I’ve never seen before. The ethical questions it may raise for journalists (especially of the online flavor) could spark interesting debate.

Wow, that’s very cool, and extremely useful. For 98% of images, there’s no problem, but the 2% could pose a problem. But hey, blame the technology, right?

Interesting technology. And Ray Romano did a pretty good voiceover too.

I think it is a remarkable technology. I want the iPhoto plugin now. Yes, there will be hemming and hawing in certain circles, but there will be plenty of great reasons to use it.

Cool technology but totally unethical if used in any journalistic way. Whether its Photoshop or this technology, if you alter an image other than cropping or resizing then the image then the image is a lie and displaying it as anything other than fictional art is deliberately deceptive.
