Hey! Oye!… Nielsen launches new site
Don Day August 30th, 2007
Nielsen is launching a new service that is described as part social network, part opinion catcher, and part buzz tracker. Hey! Nielsen is still in private beta - but the site will be used to give Nielsen clients data on what customers are liking — and what they aren’t. The site is set to launch next month, and not a whole lot of detail is available right now - though you can read the boilerplate blog here. The company is also building a Spanish-speaking version, to be dubbed Oye! Nielsen.

Is there going to be a Yiddish-related site called
Oy! Nielsen
[as what some say when the ratings don’t hit targets]

Can anyone else smell the Nielsen fear here?
I understand the impetus to start a service like this. But who wants to be associated with a company that does nothing for you and everything for the content creators, and only the rich and powerful ones?
And why would a company that has prided itself on its scientific data collection and analysis methods (or pseudo-scientific) move into a purely anecdotal service?
And back to the audience… Why the hell would I use a Nielsen social networking service? Hmmm… how much of a blatant corporate tool do I want to be today?
