CBS TELEVISION STATIONS PROMOTES ANGIE KUCHARSKI
TO VICE PRESIDENT, MEDIA STRATEGIES
New York, September 10, 2007 – CBS Television Stations has promoted Angie Kucharski to the newly created position of Vice President, Media Strategies, it was announced today by Tom Kane, President and Chief Executive Officer, CBS Television Stations.
Kucharski, who has served as Vice President and Station Manager at WBZ-TV and WSBK-TV, the CBS-owned stations in Boston, since June 2005, will report directly to Kane and handle a wide range of responsibilities for the group’s 29 television stations.
Kucharski, who will be based in New York, will provide strategic counsel and support to the group’s local management teams with an emphasis on working closely with the stations’ news directors. Kucharski will also be a liaison between the station group and the network news division and also work with the CBS Television Stations Digital Media Group to help develop and implement digital initiatives.
“As the evolution of our business continues both over the air and on digital platforms, it is imperative that we provide our stations with the people and resources they need in order to grow,” Kane said. “Angie Kucharski has done a great job for us as a talented and insightful executive at our stations in Boston and Denver and we are very pleased to move her into this new position where her broad range of experience and leadership skills will benefit our entire group.”
In April of this year, Kucharski finished serving as the Chairwoman of the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA), the world’s largest association devoted exclusively to electronic journalism, representing local and network news professionals in broadcasting, cable and other electronic media in more than 30 countries. She continues to serve as the Chairwoman of the Radio-Television News Directors Foundation.
While at WBZ-TV and WSBK-TV, where she oversaw day-to-day operations and strategic planning for the stations, the duopoly received numerous industry honors, including more than a dozen Emmys and several regional Edward R. Murrow awards, including the award for Overall Excellence. In 2006, WBZ-TV received a national Murrow award for Best Newscast.
Prior to joining the company’s Boston stations, Kucharski spent six years with KCNC-TV (CBS 4), the CBS-owned station in Denver, where she served as Vice President and Station Manager. She joined CBS 4 as News Director in April 1999. Less than two weeks after her arrival, she oversaw the station’s coverage of the shootings at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado. The station earned national recognition for its around-the-clock coverage of the tragedy, including the national Associated Press Broadcasters Award for Spot News Coverage.
In 2001, Broadcasting & Cable selected Kucharski for its inaugural “Next Wave” list of up-and-coming female media executives.
During her time in Denver, CBS 4 won three national Murrow awards for Best Newscast, Feature Reporting and Overall Excellence. In 2002, Electronic Media selected KCNC-TV as its Local Television Station of the Year, and that same year CBS 4 also received the Station of the Year award from the National Press Photographers Association.
In 2004, KCNC-TV became the inaugural broadcast partner in the National Association of Hispanic Journalists’ Parity Project – an initiative to help increase the number of journalists of color in television newsrooms.
Before moving to Denver, Kucharski served as the News Director at WBNS-TV in Columbus, Ohio. She has also worked as the Assistant News Director at WTHR-TV in Indianapolis; Assistant News Director at KTBC-TV in Austin, Texas; and News Director at KAAL-TV in Austin-Rochester, Minnesota, where she also worked as a reporter and anchor.
Kucharski received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University, where she graduated “With Highest Distinction” and was elected into Kappa Tau Alpha, a national journalism honor society, and Pi Sigma Alpha, a national political science honor society. She is also a graduate of the Management Development Seminar for Television Executives at Northwestern and of the Newsroom Management program at the Poynter Institute, where she is a regular visiting faculty member in the TV and Leadership programs.
