iPhone a traveler’s best friend

Don Day September 10th, 2007

needle2.jpgAfter Apple dropped prices on the iPhone… I helped push the company over the 1-million sold mark (I actually listened to Safran’s early adopter logic… for a while). I got it Thursday, and hit the road for Seattle Friday. I flew from Boise to Seattle to see the BSU Broncos get pummeled by the UW Huskies. The phone was invaluable. On the way to the game, we checked out live traffic with Google Maps, during the game I updated the score on KTVB.COM remotely, and sent back photos to post online. Sunday we went to Seattle Center to walk around and take pictures. My dad lost his keys, so I pulled up Google Maps and searched for “locksmith.” The map pinpointed my current location (via the EDGE network), and showed me the closest businesses. The nearest hit? “Bergman’s Lock & Key.” Since we were near KING 5… I started to wonder if Cory had (another) side gig. The phone was also great when I got stuck in San Jose, CA for four hours - giving me a list of airport restaurants. I’m hooked - and totally content with the fact that iPhone 2.0 will some day make the current gadget look like an old rotary. (Photo of the Space Needle via iPhone)

This is not helping, Don, in my quest to run out my current T-Mobile contract before buying an iPhone. May seems so long away…

Jason; you will miss Tmobile like a dear friend. My only regret about the iPhone is having to deal with AT&T. Nothing like AT&T service. Closed during the evenings and horrible weekend hours, Closed Sundays, huge bills and long wait times for service are just some of the problems I have had the last 3 weeks. I wish to take this phone back to Tmobile.

Interesting thing is that the TREO (Palm Software) does the same things, but even better. It does not have the fancy UI or clunky touch pad keyboard. But it has a great QWERTY keyboard and also Gafiti. I am not sure why Palm is not touting its capabilities. Also it plays Mp3’s, works with Google Maps, and dials out through GM. Also with sprint service, you get streaming content and also a Camera. Not sure what the fuss is for the iPhone.

and my Helio Ocean does the same, but that’s the genius of Apple - it’s like NONE of this was possible without their products, anything less is uncivilized, or so goes public perception.

@Geraid: Psst. It’s the fancy UI.

The iPhone doesnt have GPS functionality. You are either mistaken or telling a fib if you think that the EDGE network told you where you were.

A BIG warning about using this feature when looking up a locksmith.

I am the president of the illinois indiana locksmith association.

There is a serious problem in the locksmith industry. We are being overrun by Israeli organized crime.

These scam companys are putting listings up all over the united states in just about every city.

These listings all use addresses which are actually phony. They are usually an empty lot, pizza place, laundrymat, or any other business that is at that address.

There are well over 100,000 of these listings nation wide along with 100s of very professional looking websites. One of these phony companys has well over 300 sites.

These Phony locksmith companys are employing Israely citizens that are visiting from israel.

They are trained to Rip off the unsuspecting consumer who calls them.

For instance if you were locked out of your car they will tell you it is 39.00 service. When they arrive this translates to 39.00 service call and another 100.00 to open your car. They quote various service rates but will never give you a total price when asked. they always are vague.

I can go on and on with storys but if you want to learn more just google the words Phony locksmith(s) you can ad the word news so it pulls up many investigative news storys from around the country.

The BBB has Issued a nation Wide alert regarding these companys.

They are counting on you to call them by using the exact methods that were explained above in the story.

Other notes: they are putting double full page ads all around the country in yellow page books. We are constantly informing the various yellow books and they are ignoring the fact that these scammers are operating. They seem to only be concerned about the money they recieve for selling the ads. BIg Money.

I emplore everyone that reads this to be cautious when ordering a locksmith.

Ask questions such as what is your location or see if they match it to the address listed.

Ask lots of questions, if they are evasive be very careful.

These companys will usually ask for your zip code.

These companys use 1000s of different names many are genaric sounding others sound like mom and pops.

If you have an experiance with one of these companys please file a complaint with the attorney general in your state. It doesnt matter if they get you for 100.00 or 5,000.00

Please take the time to file a complaint to help put an end to these phonys.

There are many storys of people getting ripped off by 1000s of dollars.
