Omaha broadcaster launches classifieds site
Steve Safran September 14th, 2007
Check out ONow.com, a classifieds site out of Omaha, Nebraska. It’s the work of the Journal Broadcast Group’s KMTV (CBS affil) and its five radio stations. It is its own brand and does not have the names/logos of the TV or radio stations on it. For now, users can post everything, including pictures and videos, for free. Eventually the site will charge for the pix and video, but the text ads will remain free.

this will be a perennial loss leader at best. the competition in omaha should cheer them on.
they’ll have a hard time ever charging for the service when craigslist is already the leader in this space and will be free in a city like omaha for many years to come(not so sure about larger cities though).
why, when there are so many opportunities to launch a product that can generate at least some cash right out of the gate, station groups sidetrack themselves with these me-too efforts that will require alot of babysitting is really a wonder.
let’s see, what else is a popular feature in the local newspaper that we might stake a look at?
i also have to wonder why smart people at journal broadcasting have other valuable domain names in their inventory and choose to sit on them (not even pointing them to their respective markets), yet have chosen to white label this one???
hopefully, my numerous unanswered emails are having a subconscious effect.
