You have a point about the boring-ness factor of some of the 'pods', but you definately can't dismiss the idea due to that limitation. They are breaking new ground here, and there are still some issues to be worked out. But the key is the interactivity between viewer & content creator. Current_ has a headstart on everyone else, and it depends on how they use this time.

Currently (ugg), I find myself just leaving it on while I am doing something else around the house, like a visual NPR or something.

In the future tho...bored with the channel? what if you could customize your own channel? You only want entertainment pods? Only news pods? Thats when things get interesting.

Every voice should be heard, even if said voice is that of a moron who deserves nothing less than to be ignored.

...

Wait.

Ignore that.

I vaguely recall seeing Gore and that other guy pick up their Emmy between censored portions of the Emmy Awards las tnight. I think I spent more time staring at that big globe hanging from the ceiling with no audio than anything other than Sopranos bluster.

Back to Current TV, though. Went there once, haven't gone back. Tah. Dah.

Thank you, Rick.

Current TV is super boooooring, and perfectly illustrates the point of why there should be barriers to entering television.

User-generated content works online because I can navigate away as soon as it gets bad, which is pretty much all the time. With Current, I'm stuck watching a lame "pod" until I'm stuck watching the next lame "pod."

The other interesting thing in his speech was him calling their website address current.com. This is a new address for them, I think. They used to be current.tv. There is a tease video up now on current.com saying the new site is coming. Last night during the Emmys current.com was not reachable - probably due to the number of people hitting the server after he mentioned it.
