Most people when they think of online video think of poor quality user generated video on You Tube. Not surprising most don't want to see it on their TV. When online video means instant access to virtually every tv show or movie ever made, piped directly to your set, much more than 20% will find that important.

i couldn't agree more. i have my tv hooked up to my computer and love the experience. my television is a projector and it makes watching netflix "Watch Instantly" and Joost an amazing experience. We are able to get whatever we want to watch on-demand and all for the price of a dsl connection. i don't have cable and will not be getting cable with all that yhe internet and over the air DTV have to offer. Once someone comes out wit a box that can make it simple I think it will really change the way people accept their media. I think this all might come together when they shut down analog broadcasts in 2009 and no one knows how to get "free" tv anymore. There are still alot of people who watch.

I suspect that, at this point, the vast majority of people still consider the process to get online video to TV to either not be worth the effort or simply think it's too hard.

When manufacturers more closely integrate the two, I suspect the number will rise.

Without seeing the acutal survey, it's hard to evaluate this data. For example, what are the demos for the overall sample of respondents? Young people (who I'd argue are more likley to be the consumers of online video) are notoriously harder to reach via survey research than older demos.

Even if it is a good sample, what if that 20% represents younger media consumers who will eventually constitute the majority? Writing them off would be extremely short sighted.

You get the point...
