What's that? The sound of her 15 minutes passing? Actually I think you got 20 minutes, girl. Times up!

Which begs the question, where will web talent come from? Will the web grow their own? Will broadcasters ever willingly make the switch to online only.

The paradigm of "on air talent" is very different on the web vs. TV. We are seeing web talent listings on our site (www.collectivetalent.com) that were not there a year ago. But our talent subscribers seem unwilling to make the switch. Money and visibility.

I'd compare Rocketboom to Van Halen ...

FWIW, Amanda has a post on her blog where she says is returning to ABC next week.

She has a year contract and that contract isn't up yet, but she is leaving ABC to start a new project. So she says.

And she links to an NYT article she says is accurate.

...and though the Beatles were groundbreaking, both Lennon and McaCartney's solo work has been pretty damn interesting. In fact, I'm sure that if you were to ask random people on the street to name a Lennon song, half or more would name something from his solo career.

It's more of a case of what happens when a band breaks up. I wrote at the time that Rocketboom wasn't Amanda or Andrew - it was the whole combo. R-Boom isn't the same now, and Amanda's stuff wasn't the lightning in a bottle that it was with R-boom. This isn't to disparage either, mind you. As much as they didn't get along, Lennon and McCartney's solo stuff wasn't nearly as interesting as The Beatles.

I thought she did pretty well with those Amercan Express video ads, so as long as she can keep something in front of the public eye, she'll probably do fine. My "issue" with what I saw of her work for ABC is much the same as my "issue" with Yahoo!'s "9" -- It's fun and interesting for a while and there's nothing wrong with occasional viewing, but as far as I'm concerned, neither qualifies as "Must See TV".

But it does prove that someone with limited talent can get many more than the vaunted 15 minutes of fame.

There's an interesting study here on why some web phenomenons don't translate when folded into a traditional online media environment.

Sorry? What's to be sorry about? RocketBoom was the only thing she's done that deserves any kind of credit. And much of the RocketBoom charm was because she was (a) pretty, and (b) a little odd.
