The ratings over the past 20 years are down and continuing to drop… The problem is in the content, not the distribution.

I’ve found YT to be a great way to reach out to the audience for my station. We get solid traffic, our subscriptions are creeping up, and people are watching our content.

And ratings are up, right?

Because that’s how you make money, by charging advertisers based on ratings. Not by having “solid traffic” or “subscriptions.”

Lin may have a great press release agency but their Indy competitor, WTHR, has had a You Tube channel for two months.

jman - Sure they’re doing something … it’s an opportunity to extend the content beyond the website and hopefully build some loyalty and brand identity beyond their newscasts and websites.

Whether you look at it as syndicating news content to give people what they want or promotions wrapped up in a package of news clips, it’s all audience outreach.

I’ve found YT to be a great way to reach out to the audience for my station. We get solid traffic, our subscriptions are creeping up, and people are watching our content.

Are these sites really doing anything? It does not appear that they are generating much traffic and it is all about getting press.

The stations’ channels have been set up, although they may not be populated yet.

Brink, Are you sure about that? I just did searches on YouTube and the only station I saw was WGN with only 6 videos posted. KTLA and WPIX didn’t appear to have channels yet.

I’m sure there are many broadcasters doing one-offs with their stations creating channels, but as far as I know there are only two official YouTube local broadcasting partners.

Tribune has already launched YouTube channels for its stations. Just didn’t put out a press release, I guess.
