Gannett buying HighSchoolSports.net

Michael Gay October 17th, 2007

Another media company is joining the game called High School Sports. Gannett has acquired HighSchoolSports.net as their way into the game. We’ve covered the launches from the other media companies, including Hearst-Argyle (my company), Belo (Cory and Don’s company), FOX, CBS, and Cox. According to Broadcasting and Cable, HighSchoolSports.net claims to have more unique visitors than any other school-sports site. “When partnered with Gannett’s local newspapers, television stations and Web sites, HighSchoolSports.net will offer national and local advertisers an exciting, best-of-class vehicle to reach teens and parents,” Gannett Digital president Jack Williams said in a statement.

so much for “a few less key strokes” as you mentioned a couple posts back regarding cbssports. all these highschool url’s are a yard long

i will say the new design at kmbc.com is nicer than the domain name switch. they just finished redoing that HDstudio with all that etched glass emblazened with TheKansasCityChannel.com too.

to think of all the goodwill built up in these and other fine names and to simply mothball them is a crying shame. now, if there is thought of dragging them out for when these local tv stations realize they’ll need more than just one web channel to make any serious coin, then maybe you’re on to something.

nice design. i’d recommend checking it out
