WISC launches Wisconsin news aggregator

Michael Gay October 18th, 2007

ScannerChannel3000.com has launched a new feature on their site called Scanner to aggregate the news from RSS feeds around the state of Wisconsin. Newspaper and TV sites are both included on the pages. WISC wasn’t afraid to include their competition, linking to WKOW’s stories as well. Apparently the other competitor in town wasn’t included, and actually called WISC to ask why they weren’t. Turned out their RSS feeds weren’t working, and they didn’t know. Anyway, nice to see a station try aggregating news from outside their market, and from across the street.
(Disclosure: WISN-TV is a Hearst-Argyle station, and is included in this aggregator.)

This is great! Finally a station realizing that it is CONTENT that is the most important factor in drawing visitors, not the brand name which stations mistakenly think others value as highly as they do. Build a better mousetrap…..

This was ridiculously easy for them to set up - anybody can recreate the same thing in an iGoogle tab in just minutes - but they provide this plethora of news with zero setup and they reap the benefit of new visitors who hopefully discover the rest of their website.

P.S. I didn’t see Scanner on their navigation menu

not something i would do on your own homepage though.

this would make for a great free-standing web channel.

now, do a simultaneous relaunch and rename of wisc and this, then you’re on to something.

your salespeople will have twice the homepages to sell.

    easy.

i also see they are in roughly the 85th size market, right?

it’s great to see leadership from the top!

ask drudge and goog and others, it’ll be great to sell advertising around other’s content.

Web Designers….please acknowledge when you design these kinds of sites that Microsoft Internet Explorer for Windows isn’t the only browser out there.

Apparently only WISC, though channel4000.com is still around, mostly running on autopilot. (IBS used it to cover the bridge collapse in Minneapolis a few months ago.)
