Brian Williams to host SNL

Cory Bergman November 1st, 2007

Just saw the promo. “I’m Brian Williams, and I’ll be hosting Saturday Night Live this week,” the NBC anchor said on the SNL set. “And if the threatened writers’ strike takes place, I’ll be hosting My Name is Earl.” Williams has a great sense of humor, so this will be a must-TiVo event.

“My family was anxious for me to do it,” Williams told the AP. “My bosses were anxious for me to do it,” he said. “But in the end, it’s ME doing it, and I worried that anyone might be confused between this and my day job. But I just don’t think there’s a chance of that.”

No worries. His newscast is funnier than Weekend Update.

Brian Williams is a stiff shirt in a Tommy Bahama world.

This is probably more of an attempt to try and make him “cool” to anyone under 50 so inclined to watch a newscast.

Williams has been acting in his newscasts for years. The forced mannerisms, the pause in asking questions, the now-all-too-familiar anchor attire in times of chaos. By the way, that is a rumpled hiking shirt with double front pockets.

Is Williams really a combination of William Hurt and Jack Nicholson’s characters from Broadcast News?
