Alex does sound like a sad TV reporter indeed. And those Channel2000 handles also were the brainchildren of the TV partners, not IB.

IB has been nothing short of a disaster. Those of us working for stations with IB sites can barely find our OWN stories, much less anyone else’s. NBC would do well to look at the clean, easy-to-use style of the CBS O & O’s. IB just needs to go away. They’ve been trouble since their earliest days of “Channel2000,” “Channel3000,” “4000,” etc.

Bill’s got it pretty much right. NBC will drop IB in the wake of the CNN.com deal, but it is unclear what their online strategy is beyond that. Of course, the same could be said of the past six years.

My understanding from my seat at a competing site is that in the last round of redesigns under its previous regime (Harris and Schwaid), NBC imposed its own template. It was rigid and not at all user-friendly. Page views dropped sharply over several months. It was actually IB that convinced NBC to make the home page design changes that stemmed the audience losses and stabilize things.

As much as the LR faithful gripe about the IB templates, it’s worth noting that the clients (NBC, etc) have a lot of input on the page design.

Maybe, just maybe, they’ll get rid of those clunky Internet Broadcasting website templates the O&O’s use … find something where actual video can be found — on the front page!
