Venture what? New startups are lean and low budget
David Johnson November 13th, 2007
Sleepless nights and sweat-equity are the hallmarks of the new breed of online startups, according to this article that profiles a young entrepreneur working day and night out of her small studio apartment to launch a mobile coupon service. Even though they keep costs low and try to be realistic about projections, venture funding still seems necessary to break out to the next level.

Yeah, this story sounds familiar. No sleep for months, scrambling to keep up with everything. And the bottom line is that you can only bootstrap things so long without help of some kind. If for no other reason than the tech requirements.
And profitability is a funny thing. We’re at the point where we make money like a mon-and-pop grocery store. It’s a steady stream, but not enough to boost ourselves to the next level independently.
Yep, I sympathized with the folks in this story a lot.
