Did the Kindle start a blog fire?
David Johnson November 21st, 2007
As we’ve been following the launch of the Amazon Kindle here at Lost Remote, here’s an interesting post on the NYT Bits Blog that defends the Kindle against a blogosphere backlash. “A lot of people are writing off Amazon’s Kindle book reader much too quickly,” writes Saul Hansell. Clearly not the reaction Amazon was looking for when it fussed and fretted over the launch for a year. Meanwhile, with a significantly smaller buzz-building campaign, two combatants in the e-publishing world, magazine maker Zinio and rival Texterity, have both bowed e-reader software for the iPod Touch and iPhone, which we all recall had one of the greatest launches in consumer electronics history.

I’ve tried to get the Zinio software to work on my iPod Touch, with no luck. Has anyone been successful with that?

Bezos did “Charlie Rose” on Monday to promote the Kindle and though I listened to the show from the other room, so I didn’t catch every word, but I remember being especially impressed that Kindle-version of books would be available even if the hardcopies were sold out. In the interview, he used Jessica Seinfeld’s book as a recent example and I have to agree with the others that the price is a big barrier, but I’m not quite willing to write it off, I’ll just wait for the inevitable price reductions.

When Amazon creates a product, of course it’s news. But this was bad news.

Via BoingBoing, a post by Mark Pilgrim (see the URL) that crucifies Amazon for its terms of service and other restrictive policies for Kindle.
BoingBoing comments: “Here’s the biggest mystery of the Internetiverse for me today: why is it that Amazon, the most customer-focused, user-friendly company in the world of physical goods, always makes a complete balls-up hash out of digital delivery of goods?”
