Van smashes into studio during 10pm news

Don Day December 24th, 2007

Talk about breaking news. A van crashed into the streetside studio of WLS/Chicago during the 10pm news last night. While you couldn’t see the impact on camera - you could certainly hear it.

UPDATE: For reasons I don’t understand, ABC put in a DMCA takedown notice on the video previously embedded here. So I searched for another version… here it is:

Witnesses and WLS’ GM says the “accident” may have been intentional.

Kinda related, but this was on Digg and they (diggers) love the new ABC sites..especially the video player.

It’s official. Diggers know everything. Ron Paul will be the next president, big boxes stores are evil, and the new Wii game is cool!

I didn’t link to the abc7chicago.com version of this story because I couldn’t figure out how.

Have they both pulled it down? The YouTube version is gone.

I followed the link through to the CNN version last night, then I called my wife into the room to watch it. Thanks LR for first bringing it to my attention, but I really love the description, now that it’s one of Yahoo’s featured stories; “An anchor jumps and shouts “ho” when a minivan crashes into the station during the news.”

Happy Christmas, everyone and in celebration of he season, I’ve linked my name to a Youtube from John Lennon.

What I love best is that before they even finish the segment they’re doing, they break in and start reporting on the accident. Now that’s a news team.

“…it appears to be a Mazda…” Man, what a PRO!

Also, consider investing in some steel or concrete pylons to put in front of your precious street-side studio windows. Anyone want to bet the glass in any of the network Times Square studios is bullet proof?

Man, I knew the anchor was Canadian!
As soon as I heard Ravi Baichwal’s pronounciation of “Mazda” … he tried to squelch it a bit more American, as Canadians pronounce it MAZZ-da … Americans MAHHZ-da.
From the video floating around, Baichwal did a pretty good job working around the mess …
