Weather Channel, Weather.com for sale

Posted by Cory Bergman on January 2, 2008

Wow. Landmark Communications is looking for a buyer for The Weather Channel and Weather.com, which some analysts say could fetch $5 billion. So who want a quickly-growing basic cable channel along with the top weather destination on the internet? NBCU, News Corp. and Comcast are all interested, reports NYTimes.com. Imagine, for example, the scenario of NBCU with its Weather Plus digital channels and WeatherPlus.com, etc, etc. Instant synergy. Stay tuned on this one…

I’d imagine Time Warner would be interested in partnering The Weather Channel with CNN.

will be interesting to see some analysis on what portion of that “$5B” is for the web channel.

    50%?

    not too shabby.

I totally agree with Anonymous. Time Warner was the first company I thought of (perhaps because of that the NYT article that talked about Bewkes possibly beefing up the Cable side of the business.)

With the weather.com traffic rolled into the CNN digital (or whatever they are calling it these days to get around the fact that it isn’t just CNN.com’s traffic), they would be clearly dominant.

Plus, both CNN and Weather are in Atlanta.

It’s a very desirable property…but $5B is an awful lot of money. Roughly what Dow Jones went for…so question: Is it worth as much as Dow Jones?

Bloomberg article suggests The Weather Channel is worth $3 billion and weather.com is worth an additional $2 billion.

One of Landmark’s newspapers does a decent job of talking to several sources about the value of weather.com and other parts of the weather company – PilotOnline link is above

It used to become that kitchens had been walled in on each and every side – but for a little door at the entrance. Nowadays though people have opened this region up and made it more accessible to anybody that comes in. Open kitchen ground plans provide more space and help to supply individuals having a area that’s used to prepare food and entertain individuals who come more than.

I really can’t say that I entirely agree with everything that was said, but very good info overall

I enjoyed reading your blog and I needed to tell you that I completely agree with you. It is tricky to find people that think similar these days. Keep it up
