New Nightly site launches, video embeddable
Michael Gay January 7th, 2008
Despite being told the site wouldn’t launch until Wednesday, it looks like NBC News launched Nightly.msnbc.com tonight. You can check it out now. The site features a large video player with a lot of “web only” clips. I’m a huge fan of content being produced that compliments what is aired, and this presentation showcases it well. Share your reviews in comments!

Also, MSNBC.com video is now embeddable, as promised.

Wow. Very cool. I love the integration between the player and the text below, and the web only clips, of course. Still dont like the 30 second commercials, though. As for the embedding, I believe its a first for a TV-related news site anywhere.

rex may have left the building, but it looks like they learned a few things by having him there.
pretty clean.

Yep, tdc, we’re all just a bunch of hopeless idiots without Rex here telling us what to do.

didn’t actually mean for it to sound that way. but if you wanna take it that way, i’d say you’re well within your rights.
and those msnbc designs pre-rex? “gawd awful” was the word on the street (if i recall).
cheers!

Wow. That site is SERIOUSLY nice.

Jim, get back to work.
But seriously, the design work here is almost exclusively Ashley Wells, who’s a genius. My contributions on this one were more around functionality… basically, never relenting in saying the words “embeddable player” in every meeting.
Congrats to all.

Ya know what this just made me think? You seldom the names of the people attached to big projects like this. I won’t list their full names (because not EVERYONE wants their names appearing in blog comments — I know, right?), but Andrew and Stokes and Gareth and nearly a dozen other people worked on this too. There should be a credit reel.
