KPIX launches local blog aggregator

Cory Bergman January 24th, 2008

The CBS5.com team in San Francisco along with new hire Brittney Gilbert (formerly of WKRN fame) have launched Eye on the Blogs, a local blog and blog aggregator. “It’s a weblog about blogs in the Bay Area,” writes Gilbert in her first blog post. “Any blog produced within the Bay Area that I can find will be added to our blogroll, as well as the aggregator, in the hopes of making this a one-stop source for self-published online content.” Read B&C’s blurb about the launch here. Clearly, I’m a big fan of this, because I launched CitizenRain.com last year, Seattle’s blog aggregator. Unlike CitizenRain, Eye on the Blogs is wrapped in CBS5.com’s branding and navigation.

Good luck to Brittney and KPIX! It’s also interesting to see NashvilleIsTalking linked to the new blog as well.

Could the URL possibly be less intuitive? Sheesh.

yes, “makingnewstexasstyle” is far more intuitive.

bt isn’t “texas style” still a felony in many states?

Aaah….my mistake. Looks like the cookie on my laptop reverted to an old signature link.

    mistake?

    dang!

i was hoping to use that old line about sheep not knowing enough to file a police report.

    another time, i guess.

I have to agree with Rick. It’s mind-boggling that so many websites don’t have cleaner URLs, which are both human- and SEO-friendly. If blogging tools and content management systems such as WordPress and Drupal can offer clean URLs, it can’t be hard to implement in other systems.

Ironically, the link on KPIX’s front page is to cbs5.com/eyeonblogs. If only that wasn’t a redirect…

masking is also an option that not many embrace.

one exception has popped up on cnn of late. lasvegasnowdotcom looks seriously like klas-tvdotcom don’t you think?

    sure do.

I see kpix is using prospero.com as a host for their site. The redirect points to cbslocalblogs.prospero.com. Anyone used prospero.com for blogs, forum or chat management?

Cory, you’ll be amused to know that Hearst-Argyle blocks me from visiting CitizenRain due to “Spam URLs”
