I have to second tdc’s comment about the stations that seem to be holding most of the limelight.

There are several days of the week when all you see is one station’s call letters for an entire region of the US.

Sure, some stations are good, but the “best stories win” line seems to hold more weight for certain stations rather than others.

tdc… CNN rolled in the IB affils (minus NBC) after they invested in IB. They won’t be rolling up affiliates outside that arrangement.

Got a call from CNN the other day … they’re creating a web assignment desk and are seeking out web contacts at all their affiliates.

The first contact was just a ‘Hey what’s your name, how do I get a hold of you’ sort of deal, but the person at the CNN mothership said they would be sending out some sort of e-mail talking about what their plans are to better connect with the affils.

would it be fair to assume that nielsen’s monthly numbers for “cnn digital network” will now include over 200 locals?

that ought to get ‘em over yahoo!news once and for all… (well, at least until nielsen starts publishing how many are included in each of these ‘networks’).

hopefully they get someone else choosing the stories who doesn’t have “their proven track record” tied to kc, detroit and wisconsin… that section has been rigged for the last several months.

if i was any of the other affilates i’d be super pissed how this was handled since the start.

seems to have subsided just within the last 2 weeks though.

CNN is developing a new relationship with affils and has been making calls to web producers, soliticing their contributions. They’ll place the links to the stories they like best on CNN.com. Kinda like Fark, actually.
