Hmm. How is marketing not media?

And the headline on the chart (from AdAge.com) doesn’t match the data on the chart. It appears one in SIX jobs have disappeared… not one in FOUR.
The copy of the linked story backs this up:
“It’s a different picture in media. Since media employment peaked in dot-com-infused 2000, media companies have eliminated one in six jobs (167,600). “

Enjoyable content decreased 98% in the meantime.

Oakling - there is a *huge* difference between media and marketing so we shouldn’t say that the two are comparable. Yes, they are related, but you cannot say that one is the other. Marketing is a process; it is part art and part science. In contrast, media represents a mass of public distributors of information.

Media is a component of marketing. At least that’s how we view when we work with clients on a marketing plan.

What types of media did this look at? Just Old Media?
Maybe it’s just because I live in the Bay Area (near the Sillicon Valley that is), but it seems like there are just as many media jobs. But that’s include working on websites and for mobile media companies, blogs, etc…

It’s a matter of
“push” meda = job loss and “new” media = job gain
“new” media means “net-centric”
