NBC stations cancel iVillage show

Cory Bergman February 18th, 2008

The NBC owned-and-operated stations have canceled In the Loop With iVillage effective March 28th, reports TV Week. The show was heralded as the first true multiplatform daytime show, with web interactivity and live streaming. (Here’s our first story when the show launched, and the follow-up when it relaunched in Chicago.) TV Week reports that NBC station execs still believe in the concept, but low ratings ultimately doomed the show.

Most people are too lazy to interact with their TVs past the remote control.

You’ve got to give me more than “email us your questions or chat with us online”

    why would i do that?

I still don’t know why they stretched the Today show to THREE hours a couple of years ago. The fourth hour was just proof that NBC is cheap.

    *sigh*

I’m old enough to remember when they actually aired game shows on NBC in the mornings. Nowadays, syndication is filled with B-and-C-list celebrity-hosted talk shows, self-important gurus and advisors, and courtroom shows. Seriously, why do we need more than two courtroom shows? At last count, there’s over 15.

    But I digressed long enough.

I’m guessing they put the iVillage show after Today, but considering I don’t live in an area with an NBC O&O, I don’t really know.

    Here’s a question.

Why does NBC Universal have iVillage and Oxygen Media? Since both units pretty much cater to the same demographics, couldn’t they work better as one cohesive unit rather than two separate ones? Both have strengths that each could take advantage of, and if they really wanted the show to work, couldn’t they at least retool it as a national show on Oxygen?

It was difficult to watch on TV because of the hollow sounding audio. The audio alone made the show seem amateurish. I don’t know why they never addressed that issue. Maybe it was ok in the studio audience but on TV it was dreadful production-wise.
