Beta over, Hulu goes live to public
David Johnson March 11th, 2008
Hulu is live to everyone. Here’s coverage from New York Times and Variety. At launch time, Hulu is offering full-length episodes of 250 TV series and 100 full-length feature films, more than quadrupling the beta content spread. All is free and ad-supported. The product looks good, and will be a major test of how to create valuable advertising inventory to narrow the digital revenue divide.

I was excited to see all 3 Law & Orders, until I realized that they were all clips. Ditto Scrubs.
.
Apart from that, I’ve loved Hulu for months and enjoy it tremendously. I’m glad now that it’s public, so I can recommend it to people.

My daughter was either watching “Woody Woodpecker” or an episode had just ended, when Hulu went down to transition to the updated interface. Therefore, since it was already open, I left the message page in a standalone window, so I could refresh every once in a while to get one of the first looks.
All together, I’d say that I like the changes, especially the new notation on the index pages for shows with full episodes, but there is at least one thing that I regularly used that I’ll probably miss and I can think of at least one suggestion.
Though, maybe the best illustration that the folks behind the thing have their fingers on the pulse — They’ve filled out the missing episodes from “Arrested Development” with the update. AD has always been among their top five shows and best of all, it means that later this evening, I’ll be able to continue from where I left off.
