IB sites debut new video player

Cory Bergman March 13th, 2008

Internet Broadcasting has rolled out a new video player for Hearst-Argyle, Meredith and McGraw-Hill sites, and I have to say, it’s the best I’ve seen so far for local TV sites.

The player is both Flash and Silverlight for on demand, and Silverlight for live. And at 640 pixels wide as the standard 16×9 display, it may be the largest local TV player out there. (Not that size is everything, right?) But we’re still waiting for a local TV group to offer embeddable players, like MSNBC.com. Who… will… be… first?

Update: I missed this. Inergize sites, with video powered by Dayport, has the embed feature. Click “menu” on this clip for the embed code. (Thanks, Brent!)

By the way, you have to wonder how many views MSNBC.com has racked up on Keith Olbermann’s special comment on Hillary Clinton, which has been embedded all over the place. I remember six months or so ago, I heard a YouTube stat that as much as 60 percent of its traffic originates from embedded players. Free your video!

i have no problem giving credit where it’s due- it’s nice.

It looks great. I love the 16×9 ratio. As far as the embedded player. Inergize currently offers that. Anyone can embed our video to their site. Take a look!

It looks big, clean, intuitive and easy to navigate with a nice variety of search options by category, keyword, popularity and by date of publication.

Link in my name goes to a sample of WorldNow’s new video player for comparison.

Well, as I work on a WorldNow site, I’ll say I wish they would go ahead and include an embed feature in their new player…our station group has been pleading for one.

But what I really want to comment on Rob is the cool “Oceanic Air” pre-roll that played before the Chelsea Clinton story in the player you linked to. Neato.

BIM has the embed function on all their YouNews players. Link added to example at WKBW.

The ABC OTV sites have had a 16×9 ratio flash player since December of 2007. It’s only slightly smaller than the one launched by IB AND it’s on the home page of all 10 sites. Click on my name to see an example.

Hey Jason … Yeah, that Oceanic Air pre-roll is pretty entertaining. If we had more advertisements that were entertaining like that people wouldn’t be trying so hard to get around or past them.

I’m glad you guys are also beating down WorldNow’s door asking for the embed feature. I asked, was told it wasn’t going to be available, and have taken to doing third-party podcasting and pushing content to YouTube for the social features that WorldNow’s platform will continue to lack.

The YouTube pirate of the Olbermann editorial that I first saw has been viewed a surprisingly few 12,636 times. Of course, I’m not going to add-up the eleven identical copyright infringements in the YouTube sidebar or look to see how many of those that aren’t in the initial list, but may be included among the 72 “related”.

Hmmm… Though I don’t have any statistics, I wonder how many additional page (or video) views MSNBC would have, if everybody and their brother wasn’t “borrowing” their content.

Embedding does little for my choices on You Tube. Random searching and the way they group ‘related’ videos still has a lot of usefulness and I love music clips and animation the most.

Player looks nice, but isn’t SEO compliant.

The Inergize/Dayport integration not only allows for Viral distribution but will allow stations to tag ad relationships to the viral distribution as well.

This will work for the stations content and the UGC content that is submitted to the station

    Take a look!
