Facebook stealing top Google talent

Forbes notes that Google has been losing several key staffers to Facebook lately — including engineers, execs and others. One of those that left, engineer Justin Rosenstein described the appeal of Facebook, calling it “the Google of yesterday, the Microsoft of long ago. That company where large numbers of stunningly brilliant people congregate and feed off each other’s genius. That company that’s doing with 60 engineers what teams of 600 can’t pull off.”

Facebook is more like “the Friendster of two years ago”. The backlash has already started against it. Once the next big thing comes along Rosenstein’s going to look like the guy who defected from Yahoo to go.com looking for the next big idea.

Facebook != Friendster
It’s still the defacto college social media site. It’s locked into that niche and the only people who are abandoning ship are the early adopter tech crew who are moving onto the next thing.
While this is still not a good thing for facebook (having early adopters who are loud about whether or not facebook is “cool” move on and thus badmouth facebook), Facebook has captured quite a market who won’t change their preferences as easily as bleeding edge tech nerds.
Further, Facebook is going after a more global audience which will lessen the impact of the early adopters who are jumping overboard.

Sooner or later, the CIA/NSA/Facebook connection will get better play in the press. Maybe folks fellatious relationship with FBook will change after that.
