The TMZ model is what's inevitable, and the best way for local broadcasters to improve their product. (No, not more Lindsay Lohan.)

But by making the web the primary platform and covering everything as it comes in, it makes TMZ much more flexible. There's no limit to the amount of news TMZ can cover in a day -- it's far more than they can fit into a TV product.

Until TV newsrooms stop staffing and assigning enough stories to fill that day's newscast and no more, TV news websites will continue to suck.

Get more bodies out on the street with the expectation that they'll definitely publish online, and may or may not make it into the newscast. If you're covering more news, your website and your broadcasts will get better.

I wonder how many people are going to go back to their newsroom, start a blog, and consider it innovation.
