It’s all about the DTV changeover
Cory Bergman April 16th, 2008
Outside the Central Hall here at NAB, a big DTVAnswers.com booth sets the mood. “This year, the buzz on the NAB floor at the Las Vegas Convention Center is all about the pending transition to all-digital television in February,” writes Variety’s Cynthia Littleton. “And everybody at NAB seems to have a product or service designed to capitalize on this transformation coming to the nation’s living rooms.” B&C has a good wrap-up here of the escalating efforts to educate the public.

I still don’t have my coupon. NAB are still losers.

What’s the current cable/satellite penetration here in the US?
85% or so? The transition isn’t as dramatic as it could have been. Picture this in the early 1990s….

Coupon distribution is sketchy. I signed up on the first day and haven’t gotten them, but other people I know locally who have done the same, have indeed.
Who knows most about the coming transition? In my experience/exposure, it’s senior citizens. And yup, cable satellite have a big penetration (that’s what she said), but not every TV in those houses have that signal wired in.

This coupon is bull****
The cable company I am with Cablevision got around it by only offering the boxes for rent for $6.25/mo per television. So a coupon is worthless! We should all contact the FCC (I did) and have them look into this. It is another case of paying more….for less
