Get your fave CNN.com headline on a T-shirt
Cory Bergman April 21st, 2008
People either love or hate CNN.com headlines. They’re short, witty and funny. Some say they’re sensational. In fact, there’s even a website dedicated to “a hilarious collection of CNN’s often ridiculous headlines.” Well, now CNN.com is letting you take some of your favorites and put ‘em on your own T-shirt. Yup, just go to CNN.com’s home page and take a look at the list of headlines:

See the little T-shirt logos next to a few of them? I’m clickin’ the DUI one.

And viola! There’s your headline shirt for $15 bucks, with $5 shipping. Sooo… is this a brilliant marketing strategy? Will it sell lots of T-shirts? Will it “soften” CNN.com’s image because most people will buy and wear the craziest CNN.com headlines? Do tell in comments…

In fact, if you play around in the address bar after you have clicked on a T-Shirt link, you can get the shirt to read anything.

You can’t purchase any modified headlines.

“Free Prom Dresses Honors Girl’s Memory”
Maybe the girl’s entire family will each buy a t-shirt!?!
They need to be careful which headline can be made into a shirt.

First reaction: For the love of God, why???
Second reaction: Fark.com should totally do this
Third reaction: I don’t think their headlines generally merit this kind of treatment.
Fourth reaction: But, I’m hardly a fashion plate for wearing headlines.

I do agree - Fark.com would be much better of a market
I looked under Frequently Asked Questions and WHY wasn’t an option
I read CNN.com daily and was never overly impressed with their headlines - I don’t want it across my chest, especially for $20 - I mean come on, that can buy me 1/4 of a tank of gas

This is a late April Fool’s Day joke, right?
That said, it’s funny.

Offtopic, but Meg… The other day, I joked that we’re all going to use our stimulus checks to get a fill-up , then to my horror, I realized that this may have been part of the plot all along.

I remember when I use to go to CNN.com to get real news. I don’t mind a little off-beat dessert with my balanced meal of news.
But CNN.com has gone too far. It’s all tabloid, trash and sponsor-generate junk these days (and most of that is just to get people to click on video ads, I’m sure).
I get it that they want to have a sense of humor. But it feels like CNN.com wants to be “Best Week Ever” and not a serious source of news.
I wish they would spend some time redesigning their home page and stop trying to prove how clever they are with T-shirts.
Truly clever people can come up with interesting ways to tell stories and have a sense of humor. Listen to NPR any day and you’ll learn how.

$20 for a quarter tank of gas? Not for long.

Sooo..looks like altering the URL, you can have t-shirts that say “XYZ-TV is #1 - I saw it on CNN.com”
