This is definitely not the concept I was illustrating. Also on KOMO, in the subsequent, smaller story teases below, there are a bunch of "Watch the video" links instead of actual embedded video. This is quite subtle but El País seems to use embedded video INSTEAD OF using JPGs. I know Washington Post and other sites have been embedding video for awhile, but they've been restricting main page use (as far as I've seen) to the top story space. El País has been going nuts embedding on their main page, putting it wherever they have a tease with a large enough image. Visit El País and you'll see what I mean. It's subtle and quite effective. (Of course, today, after observing this practice daily on El País, they have just about NO video on the front page!) Anyway, I hope that better explains the concept. Joe,
