You know, it's funny. When I'm looking for something in Google, I never, ever click on the paid results. I don't trust them. I feel like they're cheaply buying their way into a good position, and as a result, aren't good enough on their own merits to deserve my money.

A guy gets paid $995 a download for this stuff?
Good Gig :)

Has anyone tracked back to 2001 to see if his "predictions" are worth the money? You know, did some journalism?

Whoopie.

I still can't stand animations running over my page and wasting my time completely. If you knew how many ads I routinely ignore it would make you sick.

Gordon's been saying this for several years. I've never understood exactly what he means by "online promotions". Don't online promotions still have to be advertised? If I could understand the definition I wouldn't be surprised if I find myself agreeing with the prediction about it growing.

Couple of things I disagree with...I think you're right Cory about calling for the decline of local search. It's a market that's barely begun to be tapped, IMHO. And I'd more or less have to say the same thing about local display advertising.

BTW, if you study the history of marketing spend going back 60 years, it's a pendulum that swings back and forth between emphasis on branding and emphasis on promotion. Marketers that rely too much on promotion and ignore brand advertising are less profitable over time than those that put real effort into building brand awareness and image. That's a fact...the internet is not going to change that...just the forms. So every 10 years or so, branding is "rediscovered".
