Announcing my own industry move

Cory Bergman May 8th, 2008

After seven terrific years at KING-TV and KING5.com in Seattle, I’m excited to announce I’ve accepted a job as director of business development at MSNBC.com. I’ve always admired the innovation mindset at MSNBC.com, and the opportunity was simply too good to pass up.

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time at KING. I’ve told my family and friends over the years that it’s the best TV station in America, on TV and the web. I can’t thank everyone enough.

In recent months, I’ve come to believe that the media industry needs business innovation as much or more than it needs content innovation. As a geek journalist with an MBA, that’s why I’ve decided to make the shift to the business side of the online media world.

Yes, Lost Remote will continue. What, you think I can kick this blogging habit after 9 years?

Congrats Cory…extremely well deserved. I’ve often wondered how KING was able to keep you for so long, although I guess your post gives some clues. Best of luck in the new gig! Will you be moving to New York?

Thanks! Staying right here in the Seattle area, as MSNBC.com is located on the Microsoft campus.

  • 3. Rob  |  May 8th, 2008 at 9:12 am

Congrats Cory! And glad to hear you’re still going to be hanging out here at L-R, which is sort of important since you’re the founder.

Y’know that makes four guys I know offhand who switched from a Seattle commute to KING5.com to a Redmond commute at MSNBC.com. ;)

Congrats Cory, that is awesome. Will you be able to get us discounts on Vista?

  • 17. Jason  |  May 8th, 2008 at 10:42 am

Congrats Cory…KING 5 has been a model site for many years. KING will have some big shoes to fill.

Also I second the Vista discounts/free copies … only way I’ll ever get it. Then again my crappy office computer won’t be able to run it anyway.

Cory - Huge loss for Belo, but any company that had you for 7 years is way ahead of all those that didn’t.
It’s been an honor and privilege to work with you the last couple of years.
