‘Countdown’ gets new site on MSNBC.com

Don Day May 28th, 2008

Sometime today, MSNBC.com relaunched the site for Countdown with Keith Olbermann. The site looks quite a bit like the template used for NBC Nightly News - but the remarkable thing here is how well the MSNBC folks have translated a TV program to the web. The video player is huge, and the video tray is organized like the show (5-4-3-2-1), plus trays for features like Oddball. Also, it is interesting that MSNBC isn’t afraid to have a wide array of sites with distinct looks (NBCSports.com, TodayShow.com, MSNBC.com and nightlynews.msnbc.com, etc.) look nothing alike - but share a common framework.

Updated with link to site, nixed NBCOlympics.com from list of sites

(NBCOlympics.com isn’t actually on that same framework. The rest are though.)

A link to the site would have been nice.

Wow, That looks like a Winamp skin.

With all the crap going down in China, the won’t be a need for an Olympics site unless they can move it to Sydney post haste…don’t kid yourselves. It’s toast.

How come nobody’s talking about how disgracefully John McCain dumped his first wife, Carol, for a younger, richer woman! I think he should be held accountable for what he did to her.

I am writing to thank Keith and the producers of Countdown for their unwavering dedication to the truth and speaking truth to power. Keith has been a hero of mine for a long time. I truly believe that he is the undisputed heir to the mantle of Edward R Murrow. I say undisputed only because of the untimely and devastating loss of Tim Russert. Tim was another hero of mine in the Edward R Murrow tradition and his death was a great loss to integrity in broadcasting. I haven’t felt so devastated by the death of a public figure since the death of John Lennon. The acoustic instrumental version of “Thunder Road” by Tim’s brother-in-law Tim’s memorial service gave me chills and made me cry. I believe that although Keith would be a great moderator for Meet The Press I also realize that with the current state of the republican party he might have a hard time being unbiased. I never miss either MTP or Countdown and pray I never have to. I also want to thank Tom Brokaw for filling in for the interim. Big Ups Tom! I hope that the producers of MTP do consider Ms. Andrea Mitchell for the permanent post as moderator. I met Ms Mitchell in the late ‘90 ’s when she used to rent videos at my video store in Pembroke Pines, FL. She is a great journalist with the requisite quick tongue needed to excel at that position, and I think is a perfect pick to fill Tim’s shoes, hard as that may seem.

Keith, I think 3 good names for the new Rachel Maddow show on msnbc could be
“As I see it” by Rachael Maddow or
    “from where I sit”….
    or “Seriously”…. and good luck
