Fire sweeps Universal Studios back lot

Posted by Cory Bergman on June 1, 2008

A fire broke out early Sunday morning at Universal Studios, destroying tens of thousands of reels of film, a Back to the Future set (the courthouse square) and the King Kong exhibit. A mock New York street used in many movies, TV shows and commercials is also destroyed.

Screen grab from KNBC’s chopper. See video here and photos here. Meanwhile, the park is open today, and the LA Times reports that the MTV Movie Awards will broadcast on schedule from Universal later this evening.
