Joost plans new approach, relaunch
Cory Bergman June 17th, 2008
Remember all the hype surrounding Joost? TV-like video on the web? Big-name content providers? Well, Joost is having a tough time getting noticed these days. Hulu beats it hands-down (Joost requires a downloadable app) and high-quality content is everywhere. “The world has migrated from an exclusive model of content distribution to a non-exclusive model,” says Joost CEO Mike Volpi. So to get back in the game, Joost plans to launch a browser version (no download required) and focus on broadening and differentiating itself with indie content.

Web start-up in search of a mission. I’d bail now.

If I can watch Joost programming online, without an additional application, then I am all for it. The Joost player never impressed me terribly anyways. Having something browser-based should make searching for shows easier than what Joost was in the early days. (I stopped watching Joost after Hulu came out.)

The Joost pp kills all sense of virility. You can’t post a Joost video to your MySpace page or and IM…and sending a link requires an essay explaining what to do if you don’t have Joost.
