WWLG: Where Will Leno Go

Don Day June 29th, 2008

The Hollywood Reporter puts together all the possible options for Jay Leno’s future after NBC pulls Conan up to the 11:35 slot. Some you’ve heard of: shows on ABC or FOX; some you haven’t: Leno replacing Letterman at CBS? Though that last option seems unlikely, THR makes an interesting case.

I’d say that THR’s least likely option is the one that I think will happen; Leno has continued to do weekend gigs at casinos (he comes to Albuquerque, once or twice a year) and I’d expect him to do a “victory lap”, where he cleans-up at big houses nationwide. Later, he may or may not do something else, but I honestly think that he’s probably honorable enough to not go head-to-head with Conan and well planned concert tour would get him back to his stand-up roots, plus it’d be a cash cow.

I think Leno will follow his passion and move into automotive development. Maybe he can help develop and promote the next viable alternative to gasoline engines, and he has the knowledge to do it, and would be a huge asset to any major manufacturer who can bring him on board as their spokesperson to launch the new technology.
