2,200 hours of live Olympics video
Cory Bergman June 30th, 2008
NBC will offer up a ton of live video during the Olympics: 2,200 hours. “We think it will generate a tremendous amount of engagement. We think it will generate more television viewership,” said Gary Zenkel, president of NBC Olympics. But there is one limitation: events that will be televised on NBC will not appear online until after they air (not everyone is happy about that). Meanwhile, as Webware points out, a big winner in all this is Microsoft’s Silverlight, which will power the live video on NBCOlympics.com. (Full disclosure: I work for msnbc.com, a joint venture between NBC and Microsoft.)

The snazzy NBCOlympics.com, with a big push for users to localize to receive live video streams and content from affiliate partners.

Off-topic, but did you know Hulu is showing movies now? Lost in Translation, Ice Age, Behind Enemy Lines, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, etc.

@ANON 1 Even more OT, I think Laserdiscs are an economic blessing. For less than $20 to buy two used concert discs I figure I may have saved up to $260 in ticket and gas costs and the artists haven’t had many more hits in over 20 years either…Roy Orbison is deceased and I guess that makes that one priceless.

NBC boasts all of this live video however with the new upgrades in Firefox and Safari there is no application to support the video right now which means I am totally bummed!!! Are they going to get programs out before the olympics start or does everyone with a Mac get screwed?!?
