McClatchy wants you to help them
Cory Bergman July 2nd, 2008
McClatchy VP Howard Weaver already has a blog about the “changing news media landscape,” but now he’s taking it a step further with the McClatchyNext wiki. So if you have any great ideas to help stop newspapers from bleeding, ask for an invite (”I’ll invite anybody,” Weaver says) and start writing.

I don’t know if Cory or somebody is going to delete the zip***.com spam, but the website isn’t even remotely complete. Perhaps whomever is linking the occasional offtopic pointer should hold-off until they figure-out the site’s purpose, beyond serving a couple of Google ads.

I personally hope this works well for Mr. Weaver. As a former McClatchy-ite, I respected him from afar. Extremely bright man.

It’s probably time for one of the newspaper chains, like the New York Times to convert one of its smaller dailies from print to web. It’s just a matter of time before it happens anyway. The paper should be both subscription and advertising based.

Let’s memorize more screen names and passwords!
Then of COURSE, let’s be unimpressed and decide to ignore subscription newspapers when we can get all of it from somewhere else.
Seriously. kids. Coffee is brewing.
