Results of first Nielsen ‘three screen’ study

The study found an increase in video use on the web, of course, but surprisingly it found people are spending more time watching TV, too. The average American watched 4 percent more TV and spent 9 percent more time on the internet over last year, Nielsen found. As far as mobile video, the numbers are still small, but users are avid watchers.

  1. “surprisingly it found people are spending more time watching TV, too…”

I know that we, the loyal LR readers, like to drink the new media kool-aid, but people are laying down big cash for HD sets and finally getting that DVR they* always wanted. You bet your arse they’re watching more television.

*They; as in “the people you went to high school with and never spoke to again.” Not to be confused with “us; the LR-reading new media types who are camping out in front of Mac stores for the 3G iPhone while commenting on blogs with their first gen model.”

  2. I’m I the only one who watches real tv while also surfing the internet? Can’t we all get along?

  3. no, we can’t all get along.

i thought the guy from nbc’s quote was precious- “every single provider of alternative measurement has disappointed us”.

what , no one but nielsen would cook the numbers in your favor?

(you’ll need to look for brian stetler’s nyt piece to find that gem, btw)

  4. I’ll try to see if I can get the stupid box to work or not by the weekend.

I not only watch while surfing, I use the thing as a night light,
