Ode to my Blackberry

Posted by Cory Bergman on July 13, 2008

Blackberry, today I leave you for a sexier, faster device. Her name? Well, it’s iPhone.

We had so many great times together. You brought email to my hip, day and night. On weekends. Even on vacation in Hawaii. You merged work with home like never before. Now, thanks to you, my life will never be the same.

Neither will my right thumb. All that email and that damn Brick Breaker game (high score 23,635), and some days my thumb feels like it’s going to fall off. I thumb my way through email at parties. In the bathroom. At stoplights! I have a thumb of a 90-year-old man.

Sometimes I love you, Blackberry. Other times I burn with rage. Like the time I skipped you off the sidewalk like flat rock at the lake. Because you froze up like a Bill Gates keynote. But you were invincible. You refused to give up.

I’m sorry I never switched to the slimmer Curve with the thumb-friendly trackball. Because I knew she was coming. I knew I could wait for her. And now she’s here with her silky smooth screen. (Well, technically, not quite. Apparently her father, Steve, didn’t think it was prudent to send enough of her to Seattle, the land of one million geeks. WTF!!!) But anyway, this is goodbye, Blackberry. Thanks for the memories.
