WPLG owner buys WTVJ
Cory Bergman July 18th, 2008
As the Miami Herald first reported a few days ago, Post-Newsweek has officially acquired NBC’s WTVJ in Miami. That means the ABC affiliate and NBC affiliate in Miami will be owned by the same company. Post-Newsweek says it plans to keep the NBC affiliation, but no other word on how it plans to operate the two stations. The Herald reported earlier that WTVJ would likely move in with WPLG, which would offer a fair amount cost savings, especially when you consider the efficiencies in covering the news.
You know, that has to feel a little weird for the WTVJ folks getting bought by their direct in-market competition.

Technically WTVJ was not an affiliate they are (were) an NBC O&O. It is a really sad day in Miami. The first television station in Florida (59 years) will be dismantled by its competitor.
