The first built-from-scratch DTV station

Cory Bergman July 27th, 2008

Broadcasting & Cable has a fascinating cover story on WMBF in Myrtle Beach, a brand new 100% digital TV station that’s being built from the ground up. The Raycom NBC affiliate will go live on 8-8-2008, the same day as the Olympics begins. Watch some of the behind-the-scenes work below…

    Not very romantic anymore.

What about KOHD in Bend, OR? My understanding was they were digital and built from the ground up before going on air about a year ago…

Nice article, but the video was an good example of bad video.

In opposition to Allen, I have to say that I really enjoyed this video. ‘Content is king’, not the quality, and in this case I have a particular niche interest in behind-the-scenes television. So, regardless of shaky camera movements, I still found it fascinating, and I hope Lost Remote can fit a few more of these tidbits in.

It wasn’t just the camera work, I thought there was very little content. I wanted to see more and hear from more people.

I heard about this station a while back — even applied for a job opening there since I am currently at another NBC affiliate. Looks really great there — and I have fond memories of summer vacations in Myrtle Beach when I was growing up.
The video was shaky — but it’s neat to see what all they have going on over there.

My only critique is that I would have liked to have learned about the web integration. If I had the opportunity to build a local media outlet from scratch, it would be Webcentric, with a TV newscast as one part. All we saw here was the TV news set which looked, for all the world, like every other news set. I hope they have taken a braver step than that.

How exciting for the viewers of Myrtle Beach, hear it is growing - with no housing problems there. Sounds like a great investment for Raycom. and
    NBC.

Eager to see more when they roll out on 8-8-08. Bet they have a great new team to go with all that 100% digital!
