Hurricane tracker debuts on msnbc.com

Cory Bergman August 30th, 2008

Our team at msnbc.com did a great job building this interactive hurricane tracker mashed over Virtual Earth, which just debuted on the site in time for Gustav. (Full disclosure: I work there.)

Well done. I also like Stormpulse-dot-com, which is very flexible and has a ton of awesome weather-geek data. I realize they’ve been around for a while, but for some reason I had not come across their site until this week.

I’m with Kent. StormPulse.com is much more superior to this, which surprises me because MSNBC usually defines innovation and beauty in news presentation.

Part of me suspects the whole ‘MS’ part of ‘MSNBC’ required use of Virtual Earth for base maps though, which shackles one compared to the beautiful NASA imagery and actual cloud data that StormPulse provides.

(Disclosure: I used to work with Matt Wensing, one of the co-creators of StormPulse)

I also owe Matt at StormPulse a big thanks for working with me so well and so quickly over the weekend. He went way above and beyond in helping us get his maps embedded onto our site–especially on a Saturday night!
