WTSP sent a reporter to Ft. Lauderdale this week to cover the big college bowl game. For her live shots, there’s no satellite truck. No engineer. And no photographer. Just a laptop and Skype:
Al Tompkins has the details on how they did it, which is quite simple, actually. While, the technology isn’t new, TV stations have been slow to embrace Internet live shots over quality concerns, but all that’s about to change. Extreme cost-cutting will bring IP-delivered video to the airwaves in a big way. After all, if you have to choose between a slightly-choppy, standard-def live shot or no live shot at all, the decision is pretty simple.
