Wow, what a day. Millions of people at work during the inauguration punched it up live on the web, creating record traffic surges and a fair amount of glitches spanning news sites and CDNs. Dan Rayburn compared the live inauguration streams and posts his reviews right here. The best according to Dan? The CBS O&Os, which our own Kent Chapline reviews below.
So, the inauguration was far and away the largest live streaming event in history. Or was it? “While this is a question many want to know the answer to, it’s one that nobody can truly answer,” writes Rayburn, who says a lack of unified historical metrics is to blame.

I remember signing up for Woodtock ‘99 and not getting the stream to work until after the rioting. wOOt wOOt.
It was a historic day indeed with the inauguration of Barack Obama and now Obama will have to sit down and to tackle the problems facing the United States of America. The economy, oil, jobs and two wars will all be Obama’s focal points during his historic first 90 days in office. The changing of the guard will hopefully equal an end to the crisis.
CNN definitely had the better coverage. I care a lot more about what my friends and family think on Facebook than the CBS editorial team.
The co-founder told me the first 700 gigs was FLASH. Windows Media didn’t make a showing until Yahoo started putting up some streams.
Yahoo’s front page video link (main box) was hung for a good while early on, and CNN didn’t even have the goofy swearing in.
Looks like CNN.com won the day. Not surprising, they had the best features. As far as the waiting room thing, that’s because so many people were there. CBS had a great stream because no one watched it.
There’s a New Sheriff in Town
Out here in the old west there’s a new sheriff in town.
So strap on your saddles and dig in your spurs,
Feel the Sand storms of change swirl
Around, around, and around.
This Law man has taken on the darnest task,
Been thrown from too many broncos I would guess.
But he is to unite this blasted country as if we were all the same;
The White man Blackfoot, Cheyenne,
Ever heard of such a thing?
First he promises to stamp out Cattle rustling,
And stop those big ranches from claiming our land.
To give those greedy bankers what they deserve,
A kick in the pants not a slap on the hand.
Then he is said to sweep up Dodge,
And yonder cities suffering losses.
Even a place called Washington,
I hear their hands were tied and they were held hostage,
By a small band of notorious fellows called – Lobbyist?
And all this he is to do while riding a sluggish, old mule called justice.
Yep, this sheriff brings hope back to the territory,
Hope to an old pioneer like me.
I guest because he’s said to be a pioneer himself,
A first in history.
My heart goes out for that old boy,
I reckon if ever he be need rally a posse, to his cause I’ll be true.
And so will millions of others, because that what Americans do.
By golly that’s what Americans do.
Yep, there’s a new sheriff in town alright, Barack Obama is said his name.
So saddle up and dig in your spurs; ride the winds of change.

A Poetic Commentary
This is a small, poetic style commentary written to encourage The President; however, I have no way of getting it to him. Therefore I have submitted a copy of this poem to you and different News agencies hoping that you would broadcast it live, that he might hear it and be encouraged by it. I also believe that it would be delightful entertainment and an encouragement for you, your general audience, and the American people as a whole. It is written in the form of an analogy comparing resent events of contemporary America, in particular the swearing in of President Barrack Obama, to American west period. This poem was written by me and I would be more than delighted if you decided to use. My only request is that you email me in advance so that I wouldn’t miss it. I feel America will enjoy it. Thank you very much and let’s continue to pray for our president and nation. God Bless!
Sincerely: Keith Fulton
PS: If this has been an inconvenience I deeply regret it; however if you would like similar styles of writings using an analogical or paradoxical approach please inform me. Also if you have a particular topic or forum you would like addressed, I would be happy to oblige. My emails address is keithfulton4321@hotmail.com. Once again thank you and have a great day
