InDenverTimes.com was an experiment born from the ashes of the Rocky Mountain News. Organizers said it would take 50,000 paid subscribers by April 23rd to convince them to turn the experiment into a full-fledged operation. But as we’ve mentioned before, 50,000 in a market the size of Denver is a huge number — impossible, really, considering not many people will pay for content — and now InDenverTimes is backing off that goal. “I think what you’ll find is that the subscriber number is ultimately not going to dictate the April 23rd go or no-go discussion,” co-founder Kevin Preblud told Westword. “What we will evaluate on April 23rd is a combination of subscribers and visitors to the site, and that ultimately our decision whether to make our May 4 official launch is dictated by the traffic we have generated in these first five weeks.”
