Google unveils Nexus One, is it better?

Posted by Cory Bergman on January 5, 2010

WSJ’s Walt Mossberg likes the Nexus One, unveiled today, saying it’s the first Android phone he would carry as his own. “The Nexus One finally has the right combination of hardware and software to give Android a champion that might attract more people away from their iconic iPhones and BlackBerrys,” he explains, adding that some iPhone users might switch just to get on Verizon. (For an in-depth review, check out Engadget.)

From a local perspective, the Nexus One has all the staples: GPS and a built-in compass, and it will soon include a mobile version of Google Earth. But the biggest takeway here is that Android as a platform is gaining enough traction for media companies to create Android apps, if they haven’t already.

    Twitter Reactions:

@localseoguide: NexusOne audio bluetooth could be the tipping point for me
@yelvington: oh wow, they’ve voice-enabled every text field
@kegill: Google NexusOne does not work on AT&T 3G network /or/ Verizon or Sprint US networks. (Second Tweet): Thus Google NexusOne demonstrates the folly that is mobile phone policy (federal) in the U.S. (multiple standards)…
@AndyBold: All this Nexus talk reminds me of all the recent Droid talk. And what a disappointment that was as a device.
