US Local News Network partners with LA Times

Posted by Cory Bergman on January 5, 2010

Fresh off a round of funding, the US Local News Network — best known for the San Diego News Network, SDNN.com — will launch a site in Orange County in partnership with the Los Angeles Times Media Group, reports PaidContent. The LA Times owns a few weeklies in the Orange County area, and the content and ad partnership with USLNN will help both companies take on the struggling Orange County Register (its publisher is in bankruptcy.)

By the way, we’ve created a new topic here on Lost Remote, indie news, to track the tremendous growth of independent news organizations.

Instead of taking ON the OC Register shouldn't they take OVER the paper?

Great idea for a new topic! there's sooo much going on with indie news sites, and IMO, this is going to be the year that they really take off. IMO, they're going to be really independent sites–not necessarily corporate sites. From my observations (from working on Placeblogger.com and getting to know bunches of people) there's going to be a huge boom because local news has downsized so much and lots of people really liked what they did as reporters. oh, and some of them are going to see a profit. :)

i agree with tish on both this comment and the one she left on the posting below about a cms co. getting additonal funds; i clicked through to the purported hyperlocal effort that komo has in that little enclave of ballard and noticed it had nothing on one run by sum yung guy and his wife.

If it's such a great idea, continue it here. It's not illegal.

Yo, probably because they're still pimpin' that hood and it's crazy top secret, K?

I wouldn't include WLNN in any “indie news” group.

Indie news start ups are unaffiliated with large organizations.
