If you wonder why Google (and likely a few other big companies) have been talking to Yelp over the last couple months, take a look at these numbers: Yelp’s unique users jumped from 16 million in December 2008 to a whopping 26 million in December 2009, explains Yelp CEO Jeremy Stoppelman. They doubled the number of total reviews posted to the site, now at 8 million, and small businesses uploaded a total of 200,000 offers and special announcements. Stoppelman didn’t provide any metrics around their mobile use, but you can bet it’s seen a big surge, as well.
“It’s been an exciting year to say the least,” says Stoppelman in a blog post. “And you better believe you can expect even more great things from us in the coming months!”
