NBC confirms Leno will leave primetime

As expected, NBC confirmed Sunday that Jay Leno will move back to 11:35 p.m., but the rest of the lineup is still uncertain. The change is scheduled for February 12th. Jeff Gaspin, the chairman of NBC Universal Television Entertainment, told reporters that Leno’s primetime show was meeting financial expectations, but the change was made in response to affiliate complaints about ratings performance.

“(It’s the) best decision they could’ve made,” says NBC affiliates board chairman Michael Fiorile, explaining that the affiliates are pleased with the programming change.

Meanwhile, Fox negotiates with Simon Cowell for "X Factor" and NBC blithely sits on the sidelines. "X Factor" could be a game changer for NBC, and they aren't even at the table for it.

Yes, I'm sure last-minute scripted replacement shows, reality train-wrecks and Dateline retreads will make for better lead-ins. Then the affiliates won't have Jay Leno to blame.
