One of the most valuable things you can do for your audience during a breaking news event is curate the information you come across. That is – you want to post lists and links to useful information you can’t necessarily provide for yourself. One good such practice is establishing Twitter lists, aggregating tweets from trusted sources. CNN has created @cnnbrk/haiti, Msnbc.com is doing the same on @breakingnews/haiti-quake, and the NY Times at @nytimes/Haiti-earthquake.
Remember these when a big breaking story hits locally.
Update: LR Blogger Emeritus Michael Gay points us to WTAE, the ABC affiliate in Pittsburgh, and its aggregation of Haiti-related Tweets right on its site.
Also: The Associated Press has activated its @ap Twitter account and a Facebook page to cover the Haiti crisis. Details from Poynter here, which also posted a piece on how South Florida newspapers are covering the story.
